Meditation
What Is Meditation?
Meditation is one of my deepest passions. I love teaching it because it has profoundly changed my life. Through meditation, I found healing from long-standing trauma, learned how to gently release distracting thoughts and anxieties, and discovered simple, practical tools for meeting life as it unfolds. Meditation has taught me how to enjoy being alive — to settle my body, soften my mind, and return to what truly matters. Mindulness has also deepened my practice of union prayer, helping me stay focused on enjoy the Presence of God within. Meditation is truly wonderful!” JPA
Why It Helps?
Meditation is an ancient mind-body practice that invites you to intentionally focus your attention and cultivate awareness — often by tuning into the breath, sensations, or the present moment — without judgment. At its heart, meditation is not about stopping thoughts, but about learning to observe them with clarity and calm.
While it has roots in spiritual traditions across the world, meditation is widely practised today for its practical benefits in everyday life. Modern science shows that regular meditation reshapes how the brain responds to stress, emotion, and attention — giving you a toolkit to navigate life with greater ease and resilience
How It Works?
At its simplest, meditation teaches you to bring your mind back to a point of focus — such as your breathing — whenever it wanders. Over time, this exercise strengthens what some researchers call the “muscles” of attention and awareness.
Rather than suppressing thoughts, meditation helps you notice them — creating space between stimulus and response. This newfound awareness helps you choose your reactions more skillfully, rather than being driven by habit or stress impulses.
The Benefits
Why Meditation Helps
Meditation isn’t just a feel-good practice — decades of research show it has real effects on the body and mind:
• Reduces Stress & Anxiety
One of the most documented benefits of meditation is its ability to reduce stress responses and calm the nervous system. This helps lower levels of stress hormones and creates a greater sense of balance throughout your day.
• Improves Emotional Well-Being
Meditation enhances self-awareness and emotional regulation. Practitioners often notice increased calmness, a more positive mindset, and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression.
• Enhances Focus & Cognitive Clarity
Like a workout for the mind, meditation strengthens attention and concentration. Studies show improved memory, cognitive performance, and the ability to stay present even in busy or overwhelming moments.
• Promotes Better Sleep & Relaxation
By down-regulating stress and encouraging physical relaxation, meditation can help you fall asleep more easily and enjoy deeper, more restorative sleep.
• Supports Physical Health
Research suggests meditation may help lower blood pressure, support immune function, and ease physical symptoms associated with chronic conditions like pain and inflammation.

Meditation for Everyday Life
Meditation isn’t reserved for long retreats or spiritual gurus — it works in small, everyday moments. Even short practices of just a few minutes can activate the body’s relaxation response and help you face daily challenges with more clarity and compassion.
Whether you’re new to meditation or returning to it again and again, the practice offers a gentle training ground for your mind — empowering you to live with greater presence, peace, and purpose.
One of my passions is reading, exploring and learning from a wide variety of sources and traditions. I have found incredible wisdom scattered among many faiths. It seems God likes to talk to all people with loving open hearts, regardless of their background or beliefs.
Recommended Reading List
There are beautiful meditation teachings and methods in every faith tradition. One of our goals as mystics is being open to seeing Christ speaking in unexpected places. He’s everywhere and he speaks to open hearts and minds regardless of their beliefs. I have come to very much enjoy buddhist, jewish, secular, protestant and catholic teachers. Each tradition brings wonderful insight and knowledge to help us move forward. Below are some of the books I’d highly recommend adding to your collection:
